Introduction

 

Purpose of this Guide: To teach students various ways of finding information on music-related subjects.

 

Sample Research Topic: The Compositional Style of Claude Debussy.

 

Note: Arabic numbers identify the steps taken to conduct each type of research. Words within brackets refer to the links you will click on when navigating through a particular web page. Words underlined and in brackets are live links.

A. Material Needed: Books about Debussy

a. Search For: “Debussy”

b. Search Type: Subject Heading (as opposed to “author”)

c. Brief View: location, status, call number (searchable), etc.

d. Full View: more information (can save to disc, email or bookbag)

 

B. Material Needed: Recordings of Compositions by Debussy

(Note: Use same procedure to find videos.)
