Patron Use Rules
ARCHIVAL MATERIAL DOES NOT CIRCULATE AND MUST BE USED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING RULES:
  • All material must be handled with care. Any material that exists in alternate formats such as xerographic, microfilmed or published must be referred to before the archival original will be paged.
  • Researcher is limited to the use of one box of material at a time and/or one folder at a time.
  • When using a box of material, remove only one folder from the box at a time and replace the folder with the out card provided.
  • When using a folder, maintain the exact order of the material in the folder and do not remove materials from the folders except to take them to the photocopier, then return them immediately to their place in the folder. Only single documents (which may be multipage) should be removed from the folder at any one time.
  • Marks may not be added or erased from material.
  • Due to potential harmful residue of ink, only pencils may be used for note-taking purposes.
  • Photographic prints, loose sheets and volume pages should be handled by their edges.
  • The unique nature of archival material sometimes necessitates restrictions on photocopying, therefore, any material deemed fragile or that will be damaged as a result of photocopying may not be copied by the patron.
PLEASE: BE SURE TO MAINTAIN EXACT ORDER OF THE MATERIAL IN THE FOLDER AND OF THE FOLDERS WITHIN THE BOX.

NOTICE: WARNING CONCERNING COPYRIGHT RESTRICTIONS
Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish photocopies or other reproductions. One of the specified conditions is that a photocopy or reproduction may not be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses a photocopy or reproduction for a purpose in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. The Eastern Kentucky University Archives reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violations of copyright law (Title 11, United State Code).
