Patron Information
The University Archives offers a wide variety of services. Foremost is Reference Service in which staff assist Eastern students, faculty and staff, and the general public in finding and using materials that have been processed, indexed, and cataloged. The staff also provide library instruction to university students.  The section's books and many of the manuscript and archival collections are in eQuest the library's Online Public Access Catalog or Special Collections' own computerized database. More in-depth information on holdings, links to online indexes and examples of bibliographic and footnote citations can be found at http://www.library.eku.edu/collections/sca/guide.php.

All users should be prepared to leave their belongings in a locker. First time users will be required to sign a Patron Agreement which states that they have read and understand the Patron Use Rules.

University Archives materials can be used for genealogical information, term papers and graduate theses, scholarly publications, exhibitions, verification of information, or other teaching and research endeavors. However, due to the unique nature of the records, all materials are non-circulating and must be used in the section. Reproduction services that includes photocopies, microfilm/fiche copies, audio tape duplicating, film and video duplicating, and photograph reprints are available for a fee.

University Archives accepts research requests only on the Research Request Form, and the staff can answer only very specific requests which relate primarily to the history of Eastern Kentucky University and Madison County. A bibliography of Kentucky resources is available online to help you in your research.

A campus Records Management Service is administered by University Archives. Through this service all university records have been assigned a retention period. When records of permanent value are no longer useful to university offices, they are transferred to the section for preservation. Records of non-permanent value that have exceeded their retention period are destroyed. As a result, financial savings and better control of information is realized throughout the university.
