The Dick Mayo Allen Scholarship has been established to honor Dick Mayo Allen (director from 1957-66) by identifying and recognizing those student assistants who have displayed characteristics of great dependability and outstanding work performance in the Library Complex and its branches. During his years of working with the Library’s student assistants, he gave evidence of much patience and love in supervising and guiding this group of young people as a whole. His special feelings for this group of student assistants and his efforts on their behalves were very much a part of Mr. Allen’s personality and what people who knew him remember best. Thus this type of student assistant, with the traits and values listed above, will be honored as a recipient of the Dick Mayo Allen Scholarship in the hope of fostering and perpetuating the memory of Mr. Allen and his ideals. The award consists of a scholarship check in the amount of $250 which is applied to the recipient’s next semester’s educational expenses at EKU.
