FAQ
  1. How do I send you an IM?
If you have added ekulibraries to your buddy list, double click our name, type your message, and then click send to start a chat. If we are not on your buddy list, open a chat window, type ekulibraries next to the To: field, type your message and click send.
  2. How do I get a screen name?
To set up an account and get a screen name, you will need to choose which IM client you want to use. EKU libraries IM service supports four of the most popular clients. Click on the icon in the chart above to download AIM, MSN, Yahoo, or Google Talk.
  3. I already have a screen name. How can I chat with you if I am not on my home computer?
If you already have a screen name(s), you can use meebo. Fill in the appropriate screen name and password information and click Sign On. You can also chat with us through your web browser without using your screen name or signing into meebo.
  4. What kinds of questions can I ask you on IM?
You can ask the same kinds of questions that you would ask at our reference desk. Those who need more in-depth help may be asked to set up an appointment with a reference librarian.
  5. What about privacy?
Chat transcripts are reviewed by those who staff EKU's IM service for statistical and training purposes and are not available to outside researchers. Any transcripts used for reporting or publishing purposes are stripped of any identifying patron information.

Please note: Reference staff will not tolerate inappropriate behavior. Inappropriate behavior constitutes, but is not limited to, any action that is: illegal, threatening, harassing, obscene, objectionable, or a violation of federal, state or local law. Such behavior is handled at the discretion of the reference staff member. Chats determined inappropriate will be terminated. A warning message may or may not be given to users who violate this policy. Users who fail to comply with this policy may be blocked in the future.
