Outdoor Reading Porch

EKU Libraries’ Outdoor Reading Porch on the Horizon

Imagine an expansive Reading Porch on the historic 1965 entrance of the John Grant Crabbe Main Library and only steps from the extraordinary research tools and assistance available through Eastern Kentucky University Libraries.

The Reading Porch will provide an outdoor study space for those students who are inspired by natural light and fresh air.  The Porch, located in the direct path of hundreds of passers-by each day, will provide the perfect spot to read a good book, visit with a friend or sip a cup of coffee and will serve as the perfect venue for poetry readings, evening concerts and other student events.

The Reading Porch is one piece of a larger plan to create a beautiful and inviting pedestrian mall stretching from the Main Library to the Weaver Building.  Together the porch and the pedestrian mall will breathe new life into a space that will be enjoyed by students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members for years to come.

Invest in Every Student at EKU

We invite you to invest in a project that will benefit the entire campus community with a gift of any size in support of the Reading Porch.  Donors will be recognized as Friends of EKU Libraries.  You may give online; simply designate your gift to EKU Libraries’ Reading Porch.  You may also contact the Library Advancement Office for more information.

The Porch, a $500,000 project, has been partially funded with a lead gift of $250,000 from Ron and Sherrie Lou Noel, EKU alumni who are fully committed to serving the students of EKU.  We extend our sincere thanks to the Noels for their generosity and steadfast support of Eastern Kentucky University.
