EKU Libraries FAQ for New Faculty - 2007

  1. How do I get a library card?
Your university ID is your library card. If you do not have a university ID, we can make you a temporary library card at the Circulation Desk in the Main Library. All patrons will be asked to show a picture ID (university ID or other) when checking out materials.

  2. How long can I keep library books checked out?
Faculty may borrow most books for 120 days. The exception is our popular reading collection, which includes NY Times bestsellers, popular fiction and nonfiction; these titles circulate for two weeks. Using your university ID number, you can renew books online at http://equest.eku.edu

  3. How do I schedule my students for library instruction?
Contact Kevin Jones at 622-3170 or by email (kevin.jones@eku.edu), or by filling out a library request form online at http://www.library.eku.edu/instruction/request.php. Hands-on library instruction sessions will improve student projects and papers.

  4. How do I put information on reserve for my students?
Contact the Circulation Desk or call Judy Warren at 622-1790 about putting items on reserve for your class. Articles will be placed on reserve in electronic format. Electronic reserves enable students to view their course reserves online. Books are handled the traditional way. See http://www.library.eku.edu/reserves/default.php

  5. Where do I find the library's online catalog?
eQuest, EKU Libraries catalog, can be viewed at http://equest.eku.edu. The catalog enables all visitors to view materials owned by the EKU Libraries.

  6. What if the Library doesn't own a book or journal I need?
Interlibrary Loan Service (ILL) is available and free to faculty, staff, and students of Eastern Kentucky University. Register online for an ILLiad account at http://eku.illiad.oclc.org/illiad/logon.html. Request, track, or renew your ILL items through our online system. The Interlibrary Loan Office can be reached at 622-1415.

  7. Where can I find a list of databases and electronic journals to which the Library subscribes?
View our list of databases and electronic journals at http://www.library.eku.edu/articles. Most of our databases and electronic journals can be viewed from on and off campus. Off-campus users will be prompted for a login and password, which is the same as your EKU email login and password. A few databases allow access in the library only, due to licensing agreements.

  8. How do I request a book or journal?
We are always interested in books and journals that will support your curricular needs. Request forms can be found online at http://www.library.eku.edu/development.

  9. How do I reach the reference desk?
The library can be reached by phone at 622-6594, by email at reference.library@eku.edu or through instant messaging. The IM Buddy name is ekulibraries, and can be used within the four major IM services:  AIM, Yahoo, MSN, and Google.
